Police arrest man with illegal gun and ammo

HILLBROW – A MAN was arrested after he was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm with ammunition following a stop and search operation in Hillbrow.

The suspect was walking down the street, and when he noticed the police, he allegedly turned around and walked in a different direction.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo said this made police suspicious and they followed the suspect. He said police approached and searched the suspect and recovered a 9mm pistol with three rounds of ammunition.

The 27-year-old suspect was arrested at the intersection of Pietersen and Nugget streets, and is expected to appear at the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“Criminals must know that we are out on the streets and we will make sure that we clean all the problematic hotspots,” warned Zondo.
