Oaklands family petrified after armed robbery
OAKLANDS - An Oaklands family is living in fear after they were robbed at gunpoint in their driveway.
On 6 September, a mother and her daughter who did not want to be identified, were returning from the shops and had pulled into their driveway.
The mother said within a split second, two men were at their window carrying guns.
They opened the doors and demanded that she give them her handbag, and pulled her rings off her fingers. The suspects had an accomplice in a car nearby.
The mother said the suspects wanted to go inside her house, but she kept stalling them by telling them to take her car. She added that something put the suspects off and they fled the scene with her car keys, house keys, a remote, and her handbag containing her identity document, drivers licence and bank cards.
The victim said her husband opened the door not realising what was going on and when they got inside they bolted the door and all the other doors fearing that the suspects were still on the property. Another family member pressed the panic button and armed response security guards and the police arrived. She said they had to replace all the locks of the house, but it was a small price to pay knowing that they were unharmed.
The woman added that it was a lesson to others to be extra-vigilant when arriving at home, even in broad daylight.
Norwood police spokesperson Constable Nonzwakazi Tsoanyane said police were still investigating the incident.
