BREAKING NEWS: Shootout between Metro police and suspects on M1
JOBURG - Three suspects opened shot at two Metro police officers on the M1 highway this afternoon.
The shooting occurred near the 11th Avenue offramp and caused traffic delays from the Jan Smuts Avenue offramp at about 2pm this afternoon.
According to Wayne Minaar, Chief Superintendent of Metro police, the three suspects robbed a Chinese national at the 11th Avenue intersection. “The Metro officers, who were in a six-ton truck nearby, stopped to assist the [man]. At that point the suspects began shooting at the officers and sped away,” said Minaar.
The Metro officers were unable to give chase due to the vehicle in which they were travelling. They did not return fire and there were no injuries.
