Yeoville police arrest 22 suspects

YEOVILLE – Yeoville police had a busy weekend as they managed to arrest 22 suspects for various crimes during an anti-crime blitz.

According to police the crimes ranged from driving while under the influence of alcohol, assault, malicious damage to property, reckless and negligence driving, possession of dagga, and theft. Yeoville police spokesperson Thabo Malatji said, “Most of the suspects were expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court.

Malatji added that in a separate incident a suspect was arrested for being in possession of dagga at the corner of Isipingo and Bezuidenhout streets in Yeoville. Malatji said, “The police were on routine patrol when they spotted a man standing at the street corner and when they searched him they found dagga hidden inside his jacket.” Malatji said the suspect was arrested and was also expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court.
