Residents intimated by Pikitup workers

JOBURG - Residents on social media have complained about Pikitup employees allegedly intimidating them for Christmas gifts and bonuses.

Pikitup has asserted and stands by previous media statements that their employees have been told not to solicit residents for end of year benefits.

“All our employees are trained on an ongoing basis on the code of conduct,” said Pikitup spokesperson Jacky Mashapu

“If an employee is found to have transgressed their code of conduct, which includes prohibiting them from soliciting bribes or gifts, [they] will be subjected to an internal disciplinary code of conduct,” said Mashapu.

Cheryl Labuschagne of the Parkhurst Residents and Business Owners Association said aside from the social media complaints, she had not yet witnessed any incidents personally.

Labuschagne noted that last year impostors pretending to be Pikitup employees were arrested after soliciting door to door on non-refuse collection days.

The impostors wore Pikitup uniforms and showed members of the community an apparent official letter with their identity numbers on them.

All residents are urged to report imposters and staff who approach or harass them for gifts or donations.
