Set in the 1900s Berlin, the show is set at a time when the Nazis are rising to power and centres around nightlife at the infamous Kit Kat Klub.
The show revolves around the English cabaret performer Sally Bowles, played by Robyn Evans, and her relationship with an American writer Cliff Bradshaw, played by Alexander Ferreira, who comes to Germany to try and finish his novel.
“The show integrates both art and education, tackling taboo subjects like sexuality, inequality, relationships and pregnancy in a tasteful manner,” explained producer of the show Danielle Bentell.
A subplot involves the doomed romance between German boarding homeowner Fräulein Schneider played by Mira Hirsh and her elderly suitor Herr Schultz, a Jewish fruit vendor, played by Kohlan House.
Overseeing all the action is the MC of the Kit Kat Klub played by Chloe Djuma.
Bentell explained that the school started practising last year already, “We started practising in December last year, and I am very proud of my students. I did push them a little, but all in all it has paid off, ” Bentell explained.
“There’s no other word to describe the show than absolutely magical. It’s hard to believe that the show is done by high school pupils,” said Obakeng Nkosi, a viewer.
“The show is definitely a production not to be missed,” said another viewer.
