Rosebank Fire and Rescue team save kitten
ROSEBANK - EFFORTS and perseverance of the Rosebank Fire and Rescue team ensured the safety of a kitten which was stuck in the engine compartment of a Rosebank resident’s car on 22 March.
Rosebank resident Ingrid Mech explained that she heard the panicked call of the kitten from the parking garage and realised it was coming from her vehicle.
“After numerous fruitless attempts to lure the kitten out with milk, I opted to drive to the nearby Rosebank Fire Station for assistance,” she said.
“The team were absolutely brilliant. They were extremely methodical in their approach and showed great care in their efforts to free the tiny kitten,” said Mech.
“After a three-hour ordeal, the team finally managed to pull the kitten from deep within the engine compartment,” Mech added on.
Mech, who had spent the week working in Mpumalanga and returned on Friday afternoon, suspects that the kitten sought shelter from the heavy rain in Secunda on Thursday evening by climbing into the undercarriage of the car.
It was only on Saturday afternoon at her mother’s home in Saxonwold that she first thought she heard a kitten. They suspected that the soft meowing might have originated from the neighbour’s yard and did not investigate further.
“It is quite remarkable that the kitten remained unharmed in the vehicle for the 120 km/h trip back to Johannesburg and spent three days without food,” Mech said.
“The kitten is still too small to eat on its own and has to be fed by syringe. He’s been named Miu Magic Mech and is getting stronger by the hour,” she added on.
