Child falls victim to abuse in Mountain View
MOUNTAIN VIEW - ACCORDING to a resident in Mountain View, a child is allegedly being beaten regularly as screams from the neighbouring property can be heard on a regular basis.
Katie Stubbs who hears the child’s cries said, “I used to hear regular fights coming from the house, however on 21 February I heard a child screaming. It is devastating for a mother to hear a child scream like that. I called a neighbour and he went to go and look at the child. It appeared that the child had lacerations on his face and back. We then called the police. Two officers arrived and investigated.”
Sergeant Nurse Sanyane of Norwood police said, “The police need to be called if the public suspect that domestic violence is occurring. We will investigate, however, if there is no substantial evidence then Child Welfare needs to investigate into the matter.”
Warrant Officer Riaan Riekert of Norwood police said, “The public needs to come forward to us and report the matter. A statement must be made and the matter needs to be handled professionally. All cases of child abuse are sensitive and I advise the community not to take matters into their own hands.”
Joyline Muronde of Child Welfare said, “We are currently investigating this matter. The proper steps will be taken in order to handle the case appropriately and with the child’s best interests at heart.”
Katie Stubbs added, “The police took two hours to arrive and no proper investigation into the matter took place.”
