On a new journey
PARKVIEW - AFTER almost three decades in the police force, station commander Colonel Nanda Moodley will be trading in his police uniform for a quieter life to legally assist his Kensington community.
“I have a sense of trepidation leaving all my friends and colleagues,” Moodley said.
The Durban-born commander explained that even though he fell into the police force by mistake, it has been a rewarding and challenging journey.
“I applied to join the fire department, but they didn’t have space and the police force did,” he said.
“I have never regretted my decision.”
Moodley joined the Parkview Police Station in 2005 as the station commander.
“It has always been my desire to work my way up and if I didn’t have to retire, I would’ve aspired to climb even higher.”
“What many people don’t understand is that there is no limit to what you can become, no limits… [anyone] can follow their career within the police force because it is so broad.”
“The Parkview community has been extremely supportive,” he added.
Moodley urged anyone interested in joining the police force to be passionate about serving their community. “You must have a passion for the community and must be disciplined, as well as have aspiration to progress and develop.”
On what he hated most about his job, Moodley stated that paperwork was at the top of his list. Following in second was the long and tedious hours he would sometimes have to work.
Moodley plans on taking a few months to rest and then hopes to embark on a new journey assisting his community with legal matters.
“I have noticed that there are many things that the public do not know about the law, and I plan on filling that gap. Many people tend to go to attorneys for petty matters,” he explained.
“I have had a great time in the police service, its been good to me.”
