Meet Miss India Gauteng 2015

JOBURG - As a young girl, Sherianne Pillay watched a number of pageants and longed to be the young lady to wear the coveted pageant crown – and finally her dream has come true.

The Roodekrans resident is currently studying law and is soon to complete her degree at Wits University and pursue a career in commercial law, but before that she made sure to fulfil her dream of becoming a pageant queen. Having never competed in a pageant, she bravely entered Miss India Gauteng 2015 and won.

“With this being my first pageant, I firmly believe that passion and purpose outweigh nerves and circumstance,” said Pillay.

As a religious person, she had voluntarily taken on the role of a role model, fulfilling the duty of friend and adviser to a number of girls from different walks of life – something she will continue to do as Miss India Gauteng, but on a larger scale.

“After my crowning, I launched Princess Diaries, an NPO that serves as a counselling session with girls aged 12 to 20,” she explained.

“The organisation serves to function as a verbal diary between myself and these girls to share experiences and uplift and encourage each other to fulfil [our] dreams. Princess Diaries seeks to hold motivational workshop sessions at schools and youth organisations and aims to uplift and empower young girls.”

The young role model has set her sights high for the future, with plans to enter Miss India South Africa later this year.

Pillay has not only proven to be brainy, but also creative.

Having taken part in Bollywood dancing for a long time, she was in need of another creative outlet, resulting in her launching a blog, Cherie Chiq, where the world can follow her journey and get a glimpse into her life.

This pageant queen is well on her way to showing the world the difference that she can make.
