Hiking the fjords of Norway

GREENSIDE – The Johannesburg hiking club hosted another entertaining slide show evening at Greenside Primary School.

Speaker for the evening was club member Sarah Whiteside and the subject was, Hiking the majestic fjords of Norway.

“Norway is a staggeringly beautiful country and our walking tour through the fjord region allowed us to experience areas so remote that they could only be reached by foot,” said Whiteside as she recollected her amazing experience.

“We spent days high up in the mountains looking down across inky fjords that snaked through the glacier-carved valleys below,” she continued.

“We walked next to fast flowing streams and cascades, taking in views of the mountains above teaming with waterfalls and trekked over and through tunnels of blue ice in the Jostedal icecap, the largest glacier in mainland Norway.

“We fell in love with the pristine natural beauty of the country, the wide open spaces, large bodies of water and quaint cottages of Norway and would love to return there one day,” Whiteside concluded.

The slide show/club evening is held on the second Tuesday of every month at 7pm for 7.30pm unless otherwise indicated in the programme. It’s held at the primary school and the ticket price of R25 includes drinks and refreshments.
