20 years of SA’s Constitution celebrated in a walk
JOHANNESBURG – We, The People Walked for the Constitution.
South Africans walked through the city this past weekend in celebration of Constitution Hill’s significant milestone.
Thousands of people from across South Africa took a long, celebratory walk in the Joburg CBD on 24 April in support of the #IamConstitution campaign and Constitution Hill’s We, The People Walk which celebrated 20 years of the Constitution.
Constitution Hill partnered, once again, with The Ichikowitz Family Foundation to bring the #IamConstitution campaign to life in an eight-kilometre march which took place around the city and ended at the finish line in Constitution Square.
#IamConstitution is a national campaign aimed at promoting the values and benefits of the Constitution among all South Africans and encourages the nation to read, live and embrace the Constitution of South Africa.
In partnership with Foundation, Constitution Hill offers citizens a distinct opportunity to engage with heritage and democracy with the dynamic #IamConstitution national campaign which truly celebrates all that has been achieved with the 20th anniversary of the South African Constitution.
This particular walk was the third-ever walk held in celebration of the Constitution and all that it stands for.
The We, The People Walk, which takes its name from the preamble of the Constitution, comprised art, music, dance, poetry, as well as a kiddies walk and many more activities for the young and old to take part in.
