Top Wits students jet off to Dubai for KPMG competition
JOHANNESBURG – Wits students represent the country at KPMG competition in Dubai.

Four top students from the University of the Witwatersrand recently represented KPMG South Africa at the recent KPMG International Case Competition (KICC) hosted in Dubai by Emirates Airline.
The students were selected following their win in the South African leg of the competition and competed against teams from 21 other countries in the global finale which eventually saw students from Queens University in Canada crowned the 2016 winner of the global competition.
Bilal Moosa, head of graduate recruitment at KPMG, explained that the global competition provided students with a unique opportunity to gain experience in addressing real-life business challenges. “To see talented students grow in confidence as they progress through each round of the competition and learn from the judges’ feedback brings to life how talented students are today,” Moosa said.
“Not only is it a great challenge, but it is also a great learning experience for all involved… and this programme provides the opportunity for us to give students an experience of what working at KPMG would be like.”
It is an annual competition run by KPMG, a leading global network of professional services firms, and sees various student teams tasked with developing solutions to real-life business problems.
Speaking on hosting KPMG was Hubert Frach, divisional senior vice president for Commercial Operations West at Emirates Airline, said he was honoured to host the international company for the second time in a row. “We are pleased to be associated with KPMG in this competition and to give talented students the chance to demonstrate their skills and expertise as they compete in Emirates’ home city. Congratulations to the winning team and best wishes to all contestants in their future careers,” Frach said.
The competition took place from 11 April with the final day being 14 April at the Emirates Aviation College in Dubai.
