
The Joburg East Cluster arrested 129 people from 1 to 8 June.
The accused were arrested for committing crimes ranging from rape to attempted murder and armed robbery.
The cluster is made up of seven police stations – Cleveland, Jeppe, Hillbrow, Rosebank, Parkview, Norwood and Yeoville.
The arrests are for:
- One for rape
- Five for armed robbery
- Five for assault common
- 22 for assault with intention to do grievous bodily harm
- Seven for theft
- Nine for shoplifting
- 24 for drinking and driving
- Eight for possession of drugs
- Two for malicious damage to property
- Four for business robbery
- One for possession of copper
- Three for possession of hijacked motor vehicles
- Six for being illegal immigrants
- One for hit-and-run
- One for attempted murder
- 30 for crossing railway lines
The accused have appeared in different Magistrates’ Courts such as Hillbrow, Jeppe and Johannesburg courts. Some have paid their fines while others are out on bail and others remain in prison.
