Two suspects arrested for armed robbery

PARKVIEW- Two suspects have been arrested for armed robbery.

Two armed men were arrested by Parkview Police Station’s Constable Israel Mashaba and Sergeant Phineas Phalandwa on 22 June.

This after the officers, who were patrolling the area, were flagged down by a woman who had been robbed of her cellphone. The incident occurred on the corner of Loch and Jan Smuts avenues at around 2pm.

“The woman described the two suspects to the officers,” explained Parkview Police Station’s Colonel Sandile Mkhize.

“The officers then spotted the suspects on the road. Upon approaching them, one pulled out his firearm and pointed it at one of the officers. However, the two dedicated officers managed to make the arrest unharmed.”

Mkhize further explained that the officers found a knife and the firearm, which was unlicensed, in the suspects’ possession. They were charged with armed robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and pointing a firearm at a police officer.

“I would like to applaud the two officers on the successful arrest and their dedication,” concluded Mkhize.

The suspects have appeared at Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.

The investigation continues.
