Brand SA to host Library of Hope at upcoming SleepOut

BRAAMFONTEIN– BRAND SA to host Play your Part campaign at the CEO SleepOut P

With the second instalment of the Sun International CEO SleepOut a few days away, Brand South Africa has announced the launch of the Play your Part Library of Hope activation.

The activation is part of the company’s wider campaign, Play your Part, and will see books collected from the night and distributed to disadvantaged schools, as part of this year’s SleepOut theme. The library structure will be placed on the Nelson Mandela Bridge, the location of the SleepOut, and will see participants bring along two books, which will be added to the library.

Brand South Africa chief executive officer, Kingsley Makhubela explained that the books collected from the night would then be distributed to disadvantaged schools. “We are hoping to collect over 1 000 books during the evening of 28 July,” Makhubela said.

In return for bringing books, each participating CEO will get a piece of puzzle on which they will write a pledge, showing their commitment to playing their part. All the puzzles will then be connected to create the South African flag.

Makhubela added that another planned activation on the night was the Virtual Wallet, which would allow participants to take part in the activities set up in the various kiosks on the Nelson Mandela Bridge and earn virtual money. “This ‘money’ will then enable participants to purchase items for the evening – soup, coffee, sleeping bags and blankets. All participants partaking in the activities on the bridge will earn virtual money to ‘survive the night on the street’,” he explained.

The morning after the SleepOut, approximately 1 000 homeless people will then be invited to collect what was ‘purchased’ the night before by the participants.

The CEO SleepOut will take place on 28 July, and will see CEOs, along with three selected leaders from their company, tertiary institution and high school of their choice, spend the night under the stars in aid of education.
