Busted with unlicensed gun

YEOVILLE – Suspect arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm.

A suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Yeoville on 3 September just after midnight.

According to Constable Thabo Malatji of Yeoville Police Station, police were on a routine patrol when they heard a gunshot along Regent and Bezuidenhout streets.

“They went to investigate and saw a male running down Bezuidenhout Street. They followed him… [and] stopped him on the corner of Regent and Bezuidenhout streets,” he said.

Malatji added that when the officers searched the suspect, a 9mm pistol was found in his possession with seven live rounds of ammunition. “The firearm’s serial number was filled off.”

The suspect was detained at Yeoville Police Station and is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon, facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
