Charity dinner to celebrate decades of community service

SAXONWOLD – A charity dinner to raise funds to combat poverty will be held at the Military Museum next month.

Operation Hunger will celebrate its 35th anniversary by hosting a charity dinner at the SA National Museum of Military History in Saxonwold on 6 October.

The non-profit organisation, which provides relief from poverty and malnutrition, was established by Dr Selma Browde and Dr Nthato Motlana.

In partnership with communities, Operation Hunger’s projects range from water harvesting, small garden plots, vegetables, chickens and egg-laying production, to soup kitchens, basic training in health and life management skills.

Mervyn King (SC) Operation Hunger’s honorary president, will be the keynote speaker at the event, which will run from 6pm until 11pm.

Guests can purchase tickets for R500 per individual seat or R5 000 for a table of 10. A percentage of these ticket sales will go towards covering the costs of the celebration and the remainder will be used to fund community projects.
