In September, Parkview police opened three theft-of-motor-vehicle cases reported by residents.
“It is alleged that bogus policemen have the details of the complainants as well as their vehicle registration numbers and they claim they have recovered the cars,” explained Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, communications officer for Parkview Police Station.
“The complainants are informed by these criminals to deposit cash at a Shoprite or at a bank so that the car can be towed to a close-by area,” said Sibeko.
Parkview police are warning residents not to deposit any money as it is a scam. Police will never ask for money from the public for towing a vehicle which had been stolen.
Anyone who believes they have been scammed should contact Parkview police immediately.
