A case involving a man arrested for scamming desperate job seekers out of their money is set to continue next week at Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court.
The suspect, accused of advertising fake jobs online to lure job seekers to Gauteng and then, upon arriving, taking their money before disappearing, was initially arrested on 3 October this year after he was caught attempting to scam another victim of her money.
The accused was then detained and charged with theft under false pretenses in two cases, one opened by the victim and another linking him to nine other complainants.
Captain Sifiso Mabizela, spokesperson for Yeoville Police Station, said following an initial appearance on 5 October, the suspect made another court appearance on 12 October.
“The case was postponed to next week for bail application and an identity parade for the second case involving nine complainants,” Mabizela added.
This would be carried out in order to verify if the suspect was linked to the case involving the nine victims.
The suspect remains in custody while the case continues.
