Resident left fuming after a Golf 6 is stolen at a car wash in Orange Grove
ORANGE GROVE – Family appeals for help in resolving mysterious car wash car theft.
An Orange Grove resident was left distraught following the theft of his white Golf 6 GTI at a local car wash.
The shocking incident occurred on the morning of 1 October after Mishkal Moodley left his car at the Sleek Kleen Car Wash and Valet to be washed.
Moodley explained that he left the car behind with the keys, went with his brother-in-law to run some errands, and returned about an hour later to collect it. “Upon arrival, I couldn’t see the car and then went to the manager to find out where it was; it was at that point that I was told someone had already come to collect it,” Moodley said.
“According to the manager, someone called in earlier informing them that someone would be sent on my behalf to collect the car and shortly afterwards, a man called Kevin, alleging to be acquainted with me, came and took the car.”
A frantic Moodley then asked to speak to the owner of the car wash, but the owner did not come to address the issue. It was then that the matter was reported to Norwood Police Station. Captain Elliot Tshivhase, the spokesperson for Norwood Police Station, confirmed that a case of theft of a motor vehicle had been opened on 1 October.
“We are aware of the current case but it was referred to the vehicle investigations unit, which focuses on stolen and hijacked cars, and at this stage, the matter remains under investigation,” he said.
Moodley’s mother, Therona, lambasted the police’s investigation into the theft and the slow pace in resolving the matter and catching the suspect(s). Therona expressed hope that speaking out on the matter would raise awareness of what happened to her son and appealed to the public to help in resolving the matter.
“Our appeal is for anyone with any information regarding the matter to come forward and help in resolving the case as quickly as possible,” Therona concluded.
Despite various attempts to reach Sleek Kleen Car Wash and Valet for comment, calls remained unanswered.
