Meet your favourite authors in Joburg

JOBURG – On 29 October the city celebrates books.

Bridge Books on Commissioner Street will celebrate and encourage reading during their exciting book festival.

The Bridge Book Festival celebrates Johannesburg as the inspiration for great South African writing, by bringing writers and readers together in the city’s historic core.

The day-long event brings a dozen writers, poets and illustrators to explore landmark sites in downtown Johannesburg.

The festival will take place at four venues – Bridge Books, the recently renovated Rand Club, Oppenheimer Park and Corner House – and different activities will take place at each of them during the course of the day.

Some of the exciting authors who you will be able to listen to, watch and engage with include Fred Khumalo, who wrote #Zuptas Must Fall and Other Rants; Nozizwe Cynthia Jele, who wrote Happiness is a Four-Letter Word and Sam Cowen who wrote From Whiskey to Water.

The company started out earlier this year by selling books out of a suitcase to vendors on the sidewalks of downtown Joburg. Eventually, they were buying so many books that it was time to expand into the store.

The store serves as both a supplier to booksellers, as well as a book store for local bookworms to explore and use as an escape.

Don’t miss out on this exclusive opportunity to get in touch with some of your favourite local authors, writers and poets during this exciting book festival in Johannesburg.
