Man bust with rhino horn worth R6.6 million

PARKTOWN – A man has been arrested for dealing rhino horn.

 

Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime members, who are based in Parktown, recently made a big arrest.

A man was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport for dealing in rhino horn with an estimated value of R6.6 million, this according to Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu of the Hawks. “He was arrested after a routine search was conducted and police recovered 18 rhino horns weighing about 43kg concealed in his travelling bags,” she said.

The 28-year-old male, who was in transit from Namibia to board a South African Airways flight to Hong Kong, was immediately arrested. He will appear in the Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court for dealing in rhino horn under the Endangered Species Act soon.
