The Sydenham Residents Association Joburg has received a few queries in regards to a company known as Fibrehood and work that has taken place to install fibre in the area.
Alisa Scott, secretary for the Sydenham Residents Association, said, “Fibrehood was approved and appointed by the City of Johannesburg and received instructions and permission from Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA). In parallel with this, Fibrehood has an agreement with the Community Active Protection (CAP) and are set to install the entire Cap area. Obviously, Sydenham falls within this area. Please interact with Cap directly in relation to this arrangement.
“A public general meeting took place on 9 February and residents were invited to attend. Fibrehood was present and gave a short presentation advising residents that due to complaints about pole positioning, renegotiations will take place with JRA and a new resolution will commence,” said Scott.
“In line with JRA principles, we make every effort to engage with both CAP and Fibrehood to keep abreast of the operational information to try and keep our residents informed. We have created social media links with useful information about the current fibre installation.
“The pointers and markers are placed according to underground schematics to avoid water, electricity, gas lines and pipes. This was approved by the City of Joburg.
“The teams have been verified by CAP and are currently working on 10th Avenue. We will update as we receive information. As Fibrehood is working on plans approved by the City of Johannesburg, they cannot change the positioning of poles as they currently stand. We have been assured that where poles are close to boundary walls, spikes will be fitted as a security measure.”
