Small shop owners aggrieved by vagrants sleeping outside their premisis

JOBURG – Scores of displaced people are a thorn in the side of small business owners in the CBD.

Owners of shops located on the busy Commissioner and Troye streets in the CBD are aggrieved by what they describe as health concerns resulting from the scores of displaced people who sleep outside their shops overnight.

“They refuse to move and put up a fight when we open for business in the morning,” said Ernest (who requested that his surname is withheld).

“They urinate and relieve themselves next to our shops. Not even Jeyes fluid is strong enough.”

Ernest said that many other shop owners feel the same. He added that he hopes the council will pay heed to what is now a serious issue, having already approached Metro police as well as the local municipality, only to have their requests fall on deaf ears.

“The risks are severe as there are shops selling food in the area. It is high time that the government puts its foot down and does away with these people,” he finished.
