38-year-old male suspect nabbed for alleged rape

JOBURG – City Lodge Hotel in Netwon was the scene of an alleged rape incident that took place on 13 May. Police have arrested a 38-year-old man in connection with the incident.

A man has been caught with his pants down following an alleged rape incident that transpired at the City Lodge in Newtown on 13 May.

“Police arrested a 38-year-old suspect for rape at the City Lodge in Newtown at about 10pm on 13 May,” said a spokesperson for the Joburg police, captain Xoli Mbele, while speaking to City Buzz.

“A 30-year-old female victim has alleged that the suspect forced her into having non-consensual sex at the above-mentioned address on the day in question.”

According to Mbele, the victim, whose name has been withheld, met with the suspect a few weeks ago, at which time phone numbers were exchanged. “They started to communicate with one another; however, on the day of the incident, the victim had asked the suspect to give her money to pay for her room,” explained Mbele. “They then met at Newtown Junction Mall and went to the suspect’s room, where the suspect is said to have raped the victim.”

Police have launched an investigation into the incident, while the suspect is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon.
