UPDATE: Hillbrow mass-murder accused abandons bail

JOBURG – Hillbrow mass murder accused, Sabelo Ngubane abandons his bail application. Find out more here.

Hillbrow mass-murder suspect Sabelo Ngubane (29) appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court for a formal bail application hearing on 31 May.

Ngubane, who stands accused of five counts of murder following the brutal killings of three women and two minors in an apartment in Hillbrow on 20 February, informed the court through legal representation that he wanted to abandon bail.

During his last appearance on 23 May, the court postponed the matter to 22 June for a decision on an indictment to be served.

During the formal bail proceedings, the court heard that Ngubane would instead make his next appearance in court on 14 June for a possible declaration on an indictment.

With the likelihood that the matter would be transferred to the High Court, the Regional Court heard that a provisional decision had been reached and that the docket would be handed over to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in order for a State advocate to be assigned to the case.
