Greater Lombardy East Residents Association invites residents to a meeting

LOMBARDY EAST – The meeting will discuss various issues affecting the community including the proposed housing project

Greater Lombardy East Residents Association (Glera) is inviting residents to an open meeting to discuss issues affecting them in the area.

Among the issues to be discussed is the Johannesburg Social Housing Company’s (Joshco) three-storey building project, installation of fibre, crime and other municipal concerns.

The association’s secretary Marie Smet said the meeting will be held on 10 June at the Methodist Church at 10am and everyone is invited.

Smet said Ward 81 councillor Irene Rugheimer had also committed to being part of the meeting.

She added that residents were concerned about the proposed Joshco housing project. “We also want to discuss the installation of the overhead fibre that will supply the Internet to the locals especially schoolchildren,” she said.

“The current system has a poor connection and we keep on losing signal time and time again which becomes a challenge for learners who need to connect and do their school work.”

Smet said the company that would install the fibre had indicated that to supply the service they required a certain number of people to sign up and thus this would be a major topic at the meeting.

Glera chairman Abey Mamaregane reiterated that it was important for the locals to be there and share their views about the issues affecting them in Lombardy East.

“We want to update them on some of the issues that concern them and try to understand where they stand regarding the Joshco project,” she said.
