Stargaze at Parkview Golf Club and see the solar system’s second largest planet

PARKVIEW – See the stars at Parkview Golf Club on 14 July when you can see Saturn, Jupiter and Venus.

Parkview Golf Club invites community members to reach for the stars and enjoy a mid-winter stargazing evening on its fairways on 14 July.

Saturn will pass earth on 14 July and will be close enough to be enjoyed with clear visibility, and both Venus and Jupiter will pass nearby.

Astronomer Gil Jacobs will present a short lecture and slide show on the night sky before guests adjourn to the fairway with hot chocolate or wine to study the heavens using powerful telescopes under Jacobs’ guidance.

“Our stargazing evening last year was a huge success. We’re expecting an even better attendance this year. The skies are particularly clear on winter nights and many folks are thrilled with a close-up telescopic view of planets close to us,” said club director, Jerry Fraser.

The event is free and starts at 6pm. It will be followed by a light supper, at a cost of R100 per person, and refreshments will be available at the clubhouse bar.

Booking is essential.
