Two suspects nabbed after stealing a vehicle in Braamfontein

JOBURG – Two suspects have been arrested by the Johannesburg Flying Squad following an alleged hijacking that occurred in Braamfontein on 17 June.

The Johannesburg Flying Squad was quick to arrest two suspects aged between 30 and 41 following an alleged car hijacking incident that occurred in Braamfontein on 17 June.

“Police were busy with their routine crime prevention duties when they received a tracker signal of a silver Toyota Fortuner that was reported stolen,” said Johannesburg Central Cluster Police spokesperson Captain Xoli Mbele. “The vehicle was [allegedly] stolen in Braamfontein on the same day.”

Mbele said the tracker device installed on the vehicle proved essential in tracking down the perpetrators. “Police followed the signal and at about 2pm on 17 June, found two male occupants sitting still, at the corner of Prop and John streets in Selby. When the suspects saw the police, they immediately exited the vehicle and attempted to flee the scene on foot,” he said.

“Police gave chase, however, and apprehended both suspects before charging them with possession of a stolen motor vehicle. A police investigation is underway while the suspects are remanded in custody, pending an appearance in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon.”
