Wanderers Premier League action was held under new floodlights
The opening match saw Wanderers take on the East Rand Truckers Invitational side.
The inaugural Wanderers Premier League officially got underway under brand-new lights on September 9 following a brief weather delay from its originally scheduled start on September 5.
The freshly rolled pitch was in pristine condition as the opening match saw Wanderers take on the East Rand Truckers Invitational side.

Across the action-packed week, all six participating teams completed their fixtures, featuring top-calibre competition from Alberton Cricket Club, Benoni Northerns Cricket Club, Old Edwardians XI, and the Andraos & Hatchett Invitational side.
The captain of Benoni Northerns Cricket Club said the team enjoyed being part of the tournament.
“We started playing yesterday, and it was a close game because we lost by one run,” he said. “Today is quite good. We bowled them out, and I am excited for the rest of the competition because it will prepare us for the upcoming Eastern competition, which starts on Sunday.”
Andraos & Hatchett captain Ben McMillian said the team’s first game was tough but enjoyable.

“We are an invitational team, meaning we are a team made up of different clubs,” he said. “We kicked off on Wednesday against the Wanderers first team, which was a tough game, and lost by 10 runs there.”
McMillian added that although their second game was not off to the best start, he hoped for the best.
“The tournament serves as a pre-season tournament which is about getting the boys back into the swing of things and also an opportunity to showcase our new lights and facilities we have here at the club,” McMillian said.
The score was Andraos & Hatchett Invitational 98/9 vs Benoni Northerns 99/3.
The final results of the rest of the games will be available on September 21 when the tournament finishes.
The day-and-night tournament delivered quality cricket throughout, serving as the ideal pre-season warm-up for teams to fine-tune their combinations and welcome new players ahead of the 2026/27 season.
