Houghton Nursery School collects plastic bottle tops and bread ties for the needy

HOUGHTON – Donate your bottle tops and bread ties.

Houghton Nursery School is teaching their children to care and give to the world as much as possible.

With this in mind, the school encouraged the children and their parents to collect plastic bottle tops and bread ties. When 450kg of these tops and ties have been collected a wheelchair is donated to the needy.

This initiative was started by the Glenoaks Remedial School and Bhikha Incorporated Attorneys, and recipients of the wheelchairs are chosen by them.

“We try and help those less fortunate than us as much as possible so we encourage our children to do the same,” said the school’s principal, Jennifer Soicher. “This is not the only project we have been part of. About a month ago we donated some clothes to the Johannesburg Children’s Home. We give to many charities.”

So far, the school has collected enough tops and ties for two wheelchairs to be donated.

Community members who want to be part of the initiative can drop off the tops and ties they have collected at the school. It will be added to the school’s collection and upon reaching the required weight, it will be taken for recycling and a wheelchair will be donated.
