JOBURG – DJ Zinhle and Albany bakeries take aim at 1 000 sarmies and 1 000 smiles.

As part of Mandela Month, DJ Zinhle, some of her fans and Albany bakeries teamed up to make a 1 000 sandwiches for the African Children’s Feeding Scheme.
“We are making a 1 000 sandwiches for children and we have to reach this target by 12 o’clock today, ” said DJ Zinhle. “We are doing this for the kids in the spirit of Mandela Month.”
Bontu Maludzi, brand manager for Albany said, “Today’s initiative is called Sarmies for Smiles, and today we are going to be making 1 000 sarmies for the needy.”
Everyone was very hands-on during a morning of preparing sandwiches and the Albany team and DJ Zinhle visited the African Children’s Feeding Scheme premises in Soweto to hand deliver the sandwiches.
Sarmies for Smiles was the first event of its kind for the company and was born out of the desire to make a difference.

“It’s important to give back, we are all busy with so many things and the fact that we only dedicate giving back to a month or a specific day, is not doing justice as a community to the people that need our help,” concluded DJ Zinhle.
In what is hoped will become an annual event, DJ Zinhle and her fans got together at The Living Room in Maboneng and spent a whole morning turning a large amount of bread into a huge amount of sarmies.
