World Trauma Day EMS and Firefighter Challenge to honour emergency services personnel
MILPARK – Get ready for the annual World Trauma Day EMS and Firefighter Challenge on 20 October.
South African rescue heroes will pit their life-saving skills against one another at the annual World Trauma Day EMS and Firefighter Challenge on 20 October at the South African Emergency Care training facility in Modderfontein.
Discussing the significance of the day, trauma programme manager at Netcare Milpark Hospital, Rene Grobler said this would be an ideal opportunity for the public to get a glimpse of the work conducted by men and women in the emergency services.
“It is a wonderful opportunity for the contestants to enjoy a day away from the stressful, high-pressure environment that characterises a typical day in their lives,” said Grobler.
This is the sixth year that the event will be hosted by the Netcare Trauma Division.
“Anyone working or volunteering in emergency medical services, the South African Fire Service or the South African Police Service as well as hospital personnel, trauma counsellors, and [Metro police] staff dealing with trauma within the private and public sectors are encouraged to participate in the event,” said Grobler.
The challenge will be an action-packed event where participants have the opportunity to pit their skills against their colleagues in a series of challenging individual and team activities.
Members of the public are invited to come and watch and enjoy what promises to be a memorable family event. There is no entrance fee.
Netcare general manager for emergency, trauma, transplant and corporate social investment, Mande Toubkin said the event provided an opportunity to pay tribute to the emergency services personnel who often put their own safety on the line to save lives.

Completed forms can be emailed to the same addresses or handed in at the emergency departments of Netcare Milpark and Netcare Union hospitals.
