Bramley police officially launched the Bramley Task Team at DP World Wanderers Stadium on September 9.

Bramley Community Policing Forum (CPF) executive chairperson Gerard Oaker said he was privileged to attend the launch of the task team, which aims to strengthen cooperation, enhance safety, and collectively fight crime within the precinct.

“Today represents more than the launch of a task team,” Oaker said. “It represents the strengthening of a partnership and a commitment by all role players to work together in the interest of our community that we serve.

Crime is a challenge that cannot be effectively addressed by any single organisation working in isolation; it requires communication, cooperation, coordination and most importantly a shared commitment towards a common goal.”

Oaker added that the team brings together key stakeholders, including the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), private security companies, specialised police units, the CPF and relevant role players.

He noted that the partnership aims to improve information sharing, strengthen joint operations, increase visibility, respond more effectively to crime and create a safe environment for visitors, residents and businesses.

Bramley Police Station commander Colonel Lionel Chetty echoed these sentiments, adding that the launch was an important day for the station and the community.

“The establishment of the task team represents our commitment to strengthening our fight against crime and ensuring that we will respond effectively to the challenges facing our policing precinct,” Chetty said.

“We have come to understand that the fight against crime requires more than an individual effort, but requires teamwork, discipline and a common purpose.”

Chetty noted that the team brings together dedicated members and role players who are prepared to go the extra mile to create a safe environment.

“Our responsibility is significant; the community expects us to be visible, responsive and effective,” Chetty added. “They expect us to identify and address crime hotspots, disrupt criminal activities and make decisive decisions against those who threaten the safety of the community.”

He stressed that the success of the team will depend on the quality of commitment, discipline and ability to work together.

The security partners in the task team include CAP, 24/7, Trio Tactical, ARN Security, TARS Tactical, CSO Security and Beagle Watch Security.

Chetty added that JMPD is also part of the team to support operations, improve law enforcement visibility and handle traffic-related offences.

Warrant Officer Jakes de Jager concluded that the team’s mandate is to unite dedicated members and stakeholders to work in a coordinated and focused manner to address crime priorities within the precinct.
