WATCH: Yanga wows South Africa with beautiful performance

JOBURG – The 16-year-old Idols contestant delivers riveting performance of Zahara’s Xa Bendingena Mama.

The Idols continues to push the Mzansi’s upcoming superstars to the max. Last night’s show saw the Top Six perform two songs each – a first for this season’s live shows.

The first round, labelled the Celebration of SA Music, was based on an artist or group that inspires each contestant while the second round was inspired by love songs, and saw the safe six serenading the audience at the State Theatre in Pretoria as well as the multitude of fans watching at home.

The highlight of the show was 16-year-old Yanga Sobetwa’s riveting performance of Zahara’s Xa Bendingena Mama. Sobetwa is believed to be Zahara’s lookalike and elevated the mood at the State Theatre following her standing ovation-worthy performance.

Idols judge Somizi said Sobetwa’s performance fed his spirit and that he prayed for her to make it to the end of the marathon.

Following the show, singer-songwriter Zahara took to Twitter to appreciate Sobetwa’s performance.

“Hey Yanga, my sisters just called me right now, they like you are my younger sister and I’m their old sister…I just want to say keep up the good work.”
