Riding to raise awareness

JOBURG – The Distinguished Gentlemen's Ride raised awareness around Johannesburg.

The Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride saw around 1 200 motorcyclist raise awareness throughout Johannesburg on 30 September.

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride aims to raise much-needed funds and awareness to support men living with prostate cancer and mental health issues and works alongside Movembers as its official charity partner.

Johannesburg event organiser Marnitz Venter said, “A million men die annually due to cancer and suicide, in fact, three in every four suicides are men. It’s important to me to organise an event where these issues are brought to light, as well as the fundraising. I’m really proud of Johannesburg, as a city, we have made a really meaningful contribution to achieving this year’s global target of $6 million (about R86,2 million).”

The ride began at the Vintage and Veteran Club and moved to Constitution Hill in Braamfontein. In the end, the event was able to raise over R531 456 through pledges and sponsorships.

Donations can still be made via the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride website until mid-October.

CEO of Triumph South Africa Bruce Allen said, “We’d like to thank the dapper riders, both male and female, of Johannesburg, and beyond, for turning out in such numbers for the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride. It was wonderful to see so many Triumph and other classic motorcycles in action.”
