9 November: Joburg Film Festival
Enable Media and DISCOP announced the second annual Joburg Film Festival taking place in the City from 9 –18 November. With over 40 curated releases showcasing the best in African and international cinema from over 16 countries at various venues around the City. Local and international movie stars, directors, producers and other entertainment industry leaders are expected to come together to celebrate film. The festival is open to the public with various films to cater for filmgoers of different ages, genders and cultures. Screenings will take place at The Zone, Rosebank Cinema Nouveau, Maponya Mall and many more cinemas. In addition, there will be screenings at various community venues including the iconic Kings Cinema in Alexandra.
10 November: Exhibition
From 8 – 11 November Pop-Art will showcase Exhibition, a story of an old man who has painted his rough past through murals. The play talks to issues of the lasting effects of abuse of a child by a mother, impact of violence from a man to aspirant lover and the rejection of a child by his father. 10 November: Skyjack – The Hunter Album Launch
Award-winning South African/Swiss collab band, Skyjack, returns to South Africa to launch their highly anticipated second album, The Hunter. The band consists of some of South Africa’s finest musicians – Kyle Shepherd, Kesivan Naidoo, and Shane Cooper – who are joined by two of Switzerland’s most in-demand horn players; Andreas Tschopp and Marc Stucki. 11 November: Deep in the City
World-renowned DJ, Black Coffee has confirmed that he and Euphonik will be shutting down Braamfontein with a 9-show long residency at Republic of ’94. Deep in the City will take place every Sunday from 11 November and will wrap up on 6 January 2019 at the popular outdoor spot in Braam. Entrance is free until 5pm.
11 November: Screenings of Food Fighter
Directed by Dan Goldberg, Food Fighter is a documentary that follows the inspirational story of one woman’s crusade against the global scandal of food waste. Filmed across four continents and over two years, the film will be screened at The Bioscope. Tickets available on tickets.tixsa.co.za at R50.
