Ron Smith Care Centre celebrates its dedicated volunteers

LYNDHURST – The party's guests enjoyed a special lunch, prepared by volunteer Sherill Singh, who catered for an Indian-themed party with a variety of different samoosas and curries for everyone to enjoy.

Rand Aid’s Ron Smith Care Centre kicked off the festive season with a special Volunteer Appreciation Party on 5 December.

Spokesperson for Rand Aid, Cathy Grosvenor, said, “The care center’s volunteers are very rarely all together in one place at the same time, so they all had a great time meeting people they didn’t know.”

The party hosted an ice-breaking session for all of the volunteers to get to know one another.

Recreation Programme manager at Rand Aid, Debbie Christen, said, “It was a wonderful opportunity to thank each and every one of our 45 volunteers and to tell them how much we appreciate the giving of their love, time and talents to brighten up and enrich the lives of our residents.”

She added that each volunteer contributes to the lives of the care centre residents in their own unique way such as giving one-on-one interactions with residents living with dementia or bringing a great level of energy and warmth to the elderly.

Grosvenor added, “There are so many older people who long for deep and engaging communication and connection with another human being; and that’s where the care centre’s volunteers come in.”
