One Small Act of Kindness shows concern for family of terminally-ill cancer patient
CRAIGHALL PARK – The community gathers to raise funds for the children of a terminally-ill cancer patient.
One Small Act of Kindness invited community members to support a fundraiser at AJs in the Park on 31 March to raise funds for the children of a terminally-ill cancer patient.
The event was organised by a volunteer at One Small Act of Kindness Tarryn Mason who is a close friend of cancer patient Natasha Mandy Eckermans.
“We are all about community, helping the community, and hope to be able to support Mandy’s three children aged seven, 14 and 18. We hope to help them out with food, toiletries and whatever else will help them to get by,” said Mason.
Founder and director of One Small Act of Kindness Kelly-Ann van der Meer said the organisation aimed to give one person a little bit of hope to keep fighting on.
“We arrange various drives throughout the year supporting various pleas of people in need. Whether it is assisting with food, raising funds, paying school fees, assisting those who need medical attention or feeding schemes,” said Van der Meer.
She added that Eckermans was at Hospice at the time of the fundraiser and she hoped to raise enough funds to make the children’s lives more comfortable in the upcoming difficult months.
The event welcomed community members to support the cause by purchasing crafts and food, participating in yoga or self-defence courses or enjoying the children’s entertainment on offer at the venue in Craighall Park.
A total of R12 180 has been raised so far. Community members who were unable to attend on the day but would like to assist the family in need can still contact Kelly-Ann on 082 513 2042.
