Thuso Mbedu to take over Hollywood reins in Barry Jenkins Amazon series
JOBURG – Actress bags leading role in Barry Jenkins’ Underground Railroad adaptation.
Emmy-nominated actress, Thuso Mbedu is taking the right strides towards Hollywood stardom. The young actress has officially been cast in Barry Jenkins’ adaptation of Colson Whitehead’s The Underground Railroad.
Mbedu has been cast as Cora, the main character in the novel, she stars alongside Aaron Pierre who plays her love interest, Caesar and Chase W. Dillon who plays Homer. The series tells the story of three slaves on the pursuit of freedom from southern plantations via the Underground Railroad.
“It was such an amazing process and experience. Like, true story, just prepping to audition for this role made me grow so much. It’s such a blessing and honour to tell this story. Again, words fail me so I’ll stop there for now,” Mbedu said in an Instagram post.
The 11-part series is written and directed by Academy Awards-nominated Jenkins and will premiere on Amazon.
