26 April: #KingThaFetish party
Taking place at the Newtown Music Factory on Friday, 26 April, the #KingThaFetish party is set to create a safe, loving and thrilling space for alternative ‘kids’. Hosted by legendary songstress, Thandiswa ‘King Tha’ Mazwai, the party will see her perform alongside BLKJKS and Faka. BLKJKSSNDSYSTM, DJ Doowap, Lady Skollie, Lelo Whats Good and Teedo Love join the line-up at the Factory. 27 April: Joburg City Theatres Schools Setworks Festival
From 25 April–5 May, Joburg Theatre will come alive as the first ever Joburg City Theatres Schools Setworks Festival brings Sophiatown on stage. The production is a lively and memorable musical that will be revived with a fresh and young cast to delight today’s audiences with its timeless music under the experienced eye of State Theatre’s multi-award winning artistic director, Aubrey Sekhabi. 27 April: Back to the City
Back to the City returns to Joburg for its 13th edition on Freedom Day, 27 April. Taking place at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown the festival will feature artists representing the peak of youthful and artistic expression from South Africa and abroad. Not only will the day be a celebration of the hip-hop culture but a day of live music, street art, break-dancing, art installation, skateboarding, film, street fashion, gaming, speakers and panel discussions. 28 April: Live Literature Market
Last year, Outie Bakery and Café launched the Live Literature Market, bringing together book lovers and published writers for an afternoon of conversation, food and music. 28 April: The Rand Show
From 19 – 28 April, the Rand Show, Joburg’s most iconic event promises to be an all-round show-stopper! Celebrating its 125th anniversary, the Rand Show is synonymous with family entertainment on a grand scale, and this year, the injection of on-trend content will leave visitors wanting for nothing, except maybe a little more time to soak up the fun!
