Youth vote for change

As the elections draw near, North Eastern Tribune spoke to some young first-time voters.

“Seeing that it will be my first time voting, I plan to make a conscious decision on the party I will be voting for. For the past 26 years, there hasn’t been too much change from the party that has been ruling. So I believe we need to give a new party a chance to see what they can do for our country,” said Rosebank College student, Neo Thamela.

The Business Information Technology student added that by giving another party a chance, they might be able to improve the economy and bring growth to the country.

“I am hoping the party that I vote for will be able to put the people first and be able to attend to the needs of people of the country. I also hope they plan ahead… to show how they plan to rule for the next five years. I hope they prioritise us as a country and to try their level best not to be involved in corruption,” the 21-year-old added.

Thamela said most parties were quite convincing during their respective campaigns. “I also believe that no matter how much campaigning a party might do, if someone wants to vote for a certain party, they will do so and cannot be convinced otherwise.”
