A vote for the youth
BRAAMFONTEIN– The youth of the country give their reason why they will be voting.
With the elections just around the corner, North Eastern Tribune spoke to a student who will be a first-time voter.
“This will be my first time voting. I am very excited and scared at the same time because I am not too sure if the party I plan to vote for will deliver all the needs of the country,” said Rosebank College student Thandolwethu Shongwe who’s a first year IT student.
The 21-year-old added, “We keep hearing a lot of corruption and scandals [in the government] and to me I feel they didn’t put the needs of the people of the country first, mostly the youth as there is too much unemployment and no improvement.”
Her view on the election campaigns was that most parties had done their part and were convincing, however, she felt that campaigning was a waste of money because people would vote for whomever they wanted to vote for and could not be convinced otherwise.
“I hope that the party I vote for delivers on its promise as we need a change in the country especially for the youth. I also hope that we have a bright future ahead of us as a country.”
