Youth activists champion relief efforts for KZN flood victims
JOBURG – Braamfontein-based ACTIVATE! Change Drivers network members have taken to the streets of KZN.
Afikile Tshona, Prince Charles, Nkosikhona Mpungose and 50 other members of the ACTIVATE! Change Drivers network have taken to the streets of KwaZulu Natal and the Eastern Cape in an attempt to secure aid and support for the families that have been affected by the recent floods.
These community activists are fulfilling the pledges that they made to their communities and have taken it upon themselves to visit the affected areas to find out exactly what the victims and survivors need immediate support with.
Tshona said that waiting on government aid would be a mistake as the affected people need immediate support, which cannot wait for municipal processes and government paperwork. They have approached supermarkets and private companies to ask for assistance.
“The biggest problem is getting basic household goods like food and clothes,” said Tshona.
They have urged all members of the public to support this initiative by donating non-perishable items and clothes among other things. ACTIVATE! Change Drivers has opened its offices as drop- off points for donations across its three nodal offices, in Braamfontein, Cape Town and Durban.
