Dr Joffe teaches Orange Grove school’s learners about clean smile
ORANGE GROVE – Children were then presented with their gifts from Colgate.
A local dentist, Dr Charles Joffe and his team visited Orange Grove Primary School on 18 April to teach children about the importance of dental hygiene and oral health.
Joffe visited the school at the request of volunteer librarian Marion Bloch and taught the foundation phase learners the importance of good dental hygiene as part of a Colgate initiative. She said Colgate runs an annual programme to which schools can apply, through a dentist, for a school pack for each class.
“The pack contain brightly coloured toothbrushes, toothpaste, stickers, posters, colouring-in pictures for the children and pamphlets containing information for parents of school-age children on how the tooth decay process starts and how it can be stopped,” said Bloch.
“With an engaging story and fun actions, Dr Joffe and his team demonstrated flossing and brushing and stressed the benefits of eating wholesome foods, for example, fish, meat, milk, fruit, nuts and vegetables as opposed to sugary drinks, sweets and confectioneries.”
She added that the learners were extremely responsive and enthusiastic and thanked the visitors with a display of their musical talents. In turn, children were then presented with their gifts from Colgate.
