Percy Tau named Belgium Proximus League Player of the Year
JOBURG – Tau’s walks away with player of the year award following a stellar maiden season in European football.
Last week, Royal Union Saint-Gilloise and Bafana Bafana forward, Percy Tau, created a buzz following his Belgium Proximus League Player of the Year award nomination.
The 24-year-old football whiz was officially named for this award following a stellar maiden season in European football. The prestigious award goes to an exceptional player judged to have been the best in Belgium’s second-tier league – an outstanding feat for the young player who moved to Belgium.

“I’d like to say thank you to everyone who voted for me. A big thank you to Royal Union Saint-Gilloise players and staff for the achievement, I share with y’all. To the supporters, thank you for a warm welcome to the club at the start of the season,” Tau said in a tweet following his win.
So far, Tau has scored 13 goals and achieved 12 assists in his 33 games for Royal Union Saint-Gilloise this season. This is his second player of year award having previously won one in the last season of South Africa’s Absa Premiership.
Tau was on the run-up to bag the award alongside Union Saint-Gilloise teammate, Faïz Selemani, and KV Mechelen’s Nikola Storm.
