City of Johannesburg entities partner to clean up Bramley
BRAMLEY VIEW – This operation targets two areas in the region a week, identifying areas that lack services.
Residents are urged to stop dumping waste along the stream in Bramley because they are jeopardizing the environment.
This is the message from Ward 81 councillor Irene Rugheimer during their joint clean-up operation in Bramley View on 31 May.
Partnering with various City of Johannesburg entities, residents embarked on a huge clean-up campaign to ensure their area is tidy.
Entities such as the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA), Pikitup, Joburg Water, City Power, as well as City Parks, all came together for this operation.
The operation is the brainchild of Region E director Liziwe Ntshinga-Makoro and it is earmarked to supplement City Mayor Herman Mashaba’s A Re Sebetseng Campaign.
The operation was initiated earlier in January, targeting various areas of the region to ensure service delivery. According to Ntshinga-Makoro, this operation targets two areas in the region a week, identifying areas that lack services.
It identifies and fix issues, including potholes, grass cutting, water leaks, faulty street lights, uncollected waste and blocked drains.
“We have everyone working, each entity dealing with their main functions to ensure that we address issues holistically,” said Ntshinga-Makoro.
“This is not A Re Sebetseng, but this programme supplements it. A Re Sebetseng is more working together with the community at large, but in this special operation, we try to work as entities to deal with major service defects.”
Rugheimer has thanked the Bramley View and Lombardy West residents associations who assisted to clean up of Bridge Road.
She said City Parks cut the grass, JRA cleaned the kerb inlet and scoffled the road, Joburg Water fixed the leak in the road and City Power sorted out the street lights.
“I would like to thank the Regional Director Liziwe Ntshinga-Makoro for arranging the clean,” said Rugheimer.
“My plea to the residents is to stop dumping in the kerb inlet because JRA pulled up suitcases and this blocks the drains when it rains, causing the bridge to overflow with water.”
People who dump in the park must know that this is not fair to those who enjoy living in a clean environment, she added.
She further thanked residents who always attempt to keep their area clean and neat.
