A platform to enhance trade and export opportunities was provided in Rosebank with a number of business enthusiasts in attendance. The South Africa and United Arab Emirates (UAE) Business Forum was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Rosebank. The purpose of the forum was to provide a networking opportunity between UAE-based companies and government officials in SA for key contacts to do business with.
Delegates in attendance were from the Trade Promotion Department of the UAE Ministry of Economy, Department of Trade and Industry SA and the UAE Embassy in SA.
The undersecretary for UAE Ministry of Economy, Abdullah Al Saleh said that Africa was growing very fast in terms of infrastructure. He proceeded to say that a lot more could be done to enhance inter-relations between governments of UAE and SA. “SA should look to strengthen relations with UAE because 50 per cent of their trade is with them. We have 65 flights connecting to UAE and we hope this will increase visitors, tourists as well as investors. We also invite foreign investors to invest in sectors where locals don’t have experience.”

Al Saleh also shared the investment figures and their profit returns in various sectors which he said he hoped would keep increasing annually.
Head of InvestSA Yunus Hoosen said South Africa has the most diversified economy endowed with an abundance of natural resources.
“SA is, therefore, a safe investment destination offering solid returns. SA has produced solid financial returns for portfolio investors. The Johannesburg Stock Exchange Allshare Index has outperformed other emerging market indices since the start of the new millennium,” Hoosen said.

He added that 37.7 million people in the working age category and a young vibrant population presents major opportunities for investors. Hoosen illustrated attractive opportunities across several sectors. “There is an opportunity for the infiltration of new digital technologies, enhanced data analytics and digitisation to support productivity and efficiency in the new era.”
UAE Ambassador to South Africa, Mahash Saeed Al Hameli highlighted on progress regarding the Expo 2020 Dubai set to welcome millions of visitors across the globe with the youth at the forefront. He added that the expo aspires to create a meaningful legacy that will benefit both local and global participants spanning everything from innovations and architecture to friendships and business opportunities.
