Rosebank, meet your new car guards
ROSEBANK – It's out with the old and in with the new as Rosebank gets a new set of car guards who were encouraged to focus on their work.
To assist with the overall security system in Rosebank, a new set of car guards was officially launched at the Rosebank Homeless Association annual general meeting. The car guards project has seven members in the team and was initiated by the Rosebank Police Station in partnership with the Rosebank Management District.
Upon receiving their uniforms, Rosebank Police Station spokesperson, Sergeant Bongi Mdletshe advised the guards to take good care of their uniform.
“Stay away from alcohol and focus on your work. You need to use this a stepping stone to obtain better jobs in the future.”
Mdletshe encouraged them to use their money from tips wisely.
Excellerate precinct manager, Lerato Khiba told the guards to empower themselves and to stay hygienic so that people would embrace their services.
Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck said he was happy to see other neighbourhoods adopt the car guards initiative which was pioneered in Rosebank.
One of the car guards said he had noticed a few problematic vehicles on weekends and evenings. He said the suspicious vehicle drivers were contributing to the crime of cell phone snatching and repeatedly ‘snatch people’s phones, then drive off’.
Khiba then encouraged the guards to reach out to the police and Rosebank Management District officials on such incidences and urged them to report any other challenges they face.
